Mini, Medium, & Standard Sized Handpans

Standard

Medium

52cm External

Mini
45cm Internal
47cm External

Standard handpans are built on deep-drawn, Ember stainless-steel. They offer a wonderful balance between bright and warm sounds and are highly stable. This is the largest size I offer and is the most commonly ordered. The standard allows for lower register scales and can fit more notes both on top and on bottom.

Medium handpans are built on hydro-formed, 430 stainless-steel. They have a lower profile compared to the standard size. The medium offers enough room to have a full 8-note tone circle on the top, offering the same versatility as the standard size while producing higher voice notes.

Mini handpans are also built on hydro-formed, 430 stainless-steel. Minis typically produce higher, brighter sounds—I’d almost describe them as “tighter” and more “succinct” with a controlled strike. While minis can be enjoyed by musicians of any size, petite people who find the larger sizes too big, should find the mini sits very comfortably in their laps.

Sound Models

I have a collection of over 50 sound models that you can choose from.

While some models don’t fit on the mini, all will fit the standard or medium sizes.

If you haven’t already selected sound model, please visit my Handpan Scales page to learn more.

If you’re interested in a custom scale not listed there, just include it in your message.

Extra Top & Bottom Notes

Sometimes the 8 notes plus the ding just isn’t enough. Or maybe you need room to grow.

For certain scales, I often have suggestions for additional notes that can be added to the top of Standard and Medium handpans (as mutant variations) as well as bottom notes.

Additional notes start at $125 each for the top or $175 each for the bottom.

Finish Patterns

There are 4 finish patterns I currently produce:

  • Silver and Gold Vortex (Gold is only available on the standard size)

  • Silver and Gold Helios, a recent premium addition are an additional $25

If you were to ask me, I’d say that silver dramatically increases the contrast and might be my favorite.

“Cannot wait to hear it! I can feel it’s going to sound as amazing as it looks! Damn! ❤️🔥⚡️”

The Maker

My name is Rebecca Dancyger and I have over a decade of experience crafting handpans across various steels.

Located in Asheville, North Carolina, every handpan I produce has been expertly shaped by hand with care, passion, and dedication.

I believe these instruments can wake people up, change them, help them find themselves, and discover a profound joy that words can hardly describe.

Spirit is one thing that shines brilliantly any time someone plays or hears the handpan. I aim to provide that experience with each of my instruments.

  • Incredible Sound

Just received this beautiful new F# 8 Avebury by Spirit Handpans. This pan has such an incredible sound and the simplicity of having just 8 notes makes it very beginner friendly. Also the shoulder room for percussion is very nice!

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers

  • I highly recommend the Spirit Gloss Handpan Oil to keep your handpan looking glossy and pristine. Formulated to aid in the prevention of rust and oxidation on your steel instruments. I suggest all of my customers use this oil to protect their handpans.

Another recommended accessory is the Rhythm Rest, a non-slip, magnetic grip which will help keep your handpan from sliding around on your lap, allows you to rest your instrument on the floor, for floor-seated playing, and prevents scratches on the bottom of your handpan.

Please include in your message any accessories you’d like to include with your custom order.

  • When placing a custom order, you can expect your instrument to typically be crafted between 2-4 weeks.

However, this timeline can be longer if there are other orders ahead of yours.

  • Sure! I’ve got videos of various scales on my Handpan Scales page.

I’m also very active on Instagram @spirithandpans

  • I currently accept financing through Klarna for all US-based orders.

If you’re interested in using Klarna, please include a note about that in your custom order.

    Klarna’s options include:

    • Klarna installments: customers pay for their purchase in three or four interest-free payments.

    • Klarna financing: customers pay for their purchase over a longer term of up to 36 months, which may include interest.

    • Klarna pay later: customers pay for the purchase in a single payment in 30 days from the date of purchase.

    • Klarna pay now: customers pay for the purchase immediately using a linked card, bank debit, or bank transfer.

Customers using Klarna as a payment method will be directed to Klarna's website to choose their desired payment option. After completing the prompts, they will return to here to finalize the order. Klarna will offer payment options based on the customer's billing address and the total amount of the transaction.

  • I am committed to making Spirit Handpans amongst the highest quality instruments on the market.

Your handpan should stay in tune for at least one year with gentle/average velocity playing. Most customers report still being satisfied with their Spirit Handpan multiple years after purchase.

I have designed your instrument to maintain its appearance for many years to come when you follow my recommended care and maintenance.

I guarantee that the two halves of your instrument will remain together for at least ten years, though it should last a lifetime. In the unlikely event that your instrument naturally separates (this means it does not separate due to damage caused to your instrument), I will reglue your handpan.

I will be available to retune your handpan when the time comes. My Retune fee for Spirit Handpans is $115 for standard 9 note total instruments, and is $20 more per note for instruments with additional notes. Please visit my Repairs & Retunes page for more info.

I will always be available to answer questions or concerns regarding your handpan over the course of the life of the instrument.

  • There are many technical aspects that make a handpan high quality, then there is something a bit more organic that makes a handpan feel soulful.

I put all of these things in my instrument to create a high quality instrument that also feels truly unique and special when you play it.

    • Incredibly High Stability: Because of the repeated heat-treatments, Spirit Handpans will stay in tune for a long time with normal velocity playing and will withstand occasional firm strikes.

    • Precise Tuning: Focus on expression, knowing your notes won’t sound "off" or clash.

    • Impeccable Tonal Quality: Enjoy a pure, bright, and refined sound.

    • Responsiveness: Striking the pan will easily produce the desired sounds

    • High Isolation: Striking one note will only activate that note. Whereas with other pans you may experience dissonance when other nearby notes are also activated. Spirit Handpans deliver improved performance with reduced chatter between notes.

    • Beautiful Aesthetic: Let the gorgeous finish inspire you to produce wonderful music

    • Blooming overtones that create a cosmic playing experience

    • Infused with spirit and passion that customers have reported truly being able to feel when they play my handpans

  • Yes, customers who have already bought a Spirit Handpan are eligible for a $100 discount off of their next handpan.

I also offer a $125 discount for customers who choose local pickup instead of shipping.
